Day by day
- Day1Arrive and settle in
Land in the afternoon, pick up the hire car and check in. A gentle evening at Disney Springs (free to enter) to stay awake until bedtime.
- Day2Magic Kingdom
Be at the gates before opening. Plan your first three rides, take a break at the hotel pool after lunch, and come back for the evening parade and fireworks.
- Day3Universal
Islands of Adventure for Hogwarts and the big coasters, or Epic Universe, Universal's newest park. Book tickets ahead: they are dated.
- Day4Pool or water park
A slower day after two big ones: Volcano Bay, Typhoon Lagoon or just the hotel pool.
- Day5Space and beach
Drive about an hour east to the Kennedy Space Center (rocket garden, Space Shuttle Atlantis), then sunset on Cocoa Beach.
- Day6EPCOT or Animal Kingdom
EPCOT for the world showcase and Test Track, or Animal Kingdom for the safari ride, best early in the morning.
- Day7Last morning
Outlet shopping or a last park morning, then return the car. Evening flights land in the UK the next morning.
Before you go
- ESTA. British citizens need an approved ESTA before they board. Apply only on the official ESTA website; other sites charge extra.
- Buy park tickets before you fly, from the parks' own websites or authorised sellers. Dated tickets are cheaper on quieter days.
- Hire a car. Orlando is spread out. A full UK licence is accepted; most roads near the parks have tolls, so ask the hire company about a toll pass.
- Weather. Summer afternoons bring heat and thunderstorms, and hurricane season runs 1 June to 30 November. Travel insurance with strong medical cover is essential in the USA.
- School holidays (Easter, summer, October half-term) are the busiest and most expensive weeks.
